Emerging technologies promise operational improvements, but their scaling often generates complex trade-offs that become more acute across organisational boundaries and levels. The special issue addresses operational tensions—persistent conflicts between competing demands such as centralisation versus decentralisation, efficiency versus flexibility, and autonomy versus control—that emerge when technologies reconfigure processes, resource allocation and governance. These tensions extend beyond individual implementations to affect supply networks, infrastructure systems and institutional contexts, with implications for resilience, governance and sustainability.

The call invites research examining how organisations navigate these tensions at three levels: within organisations, across supply networks and platforms, and at system-wide scales involving regulation, cybersecurity and resource constraints. Particular interest lies in contexts facing disruption or resource scarcity, such as healthcare and humanitarian operations, where technology adoption may enhance visibility and coordination yet intensify tensions around resource allocation and inter-organisational accountability.

This special issue examines how data science reshapes project, programme, and portfolio management practices. Rather than focusing on technical algorithmic details, it seeks to understand how managers can translate data and algorithmic insights into better decisions, governance, and value creation across the project lifecycle. The collection emphasizes managerial transformation rather than technology as an add-on.

Contributions should address how data-driven practices improve decision quality and accountability, how governance mechanisms adapt to data-intensive work, and how manager and team competencies evolve. The special issue particularly welcomes research on adoption conditions, implementation challenges, and safeguards for ethical use, bias mitigation, and transparency in decision-making.

Submissions should prioritize actionable insights for practitioners through conceptual frameworks, empirical case studies, and practical artifacts such as decision frameworks, governance templates, and maturity models. Cross-sector studies demonstrating tangible managerial outcomes and connections to organizational strategy and broader societal value are especially encouraged.

Entrepreneurship education must adapt to rapid technological change, as emerging innovations like AI, blockchain, and immersive platforms are fundamentally transforming how entrepreneurs identify opportunities, develop prototypes, and scale businesses. While these technologies offer unprecedented pedagogical potential through simulations and gamified learning, many educational programs continue using traditional, Western-centric approaches that prioritize information delivery over experiential learning.

This special issue addresses the urgent need to critically examine how entrepreneurship education can effectively integrate emerging technologies while remaining responsive to the entrepreneurial realities students will face. The issue is particularly relevant for emerging economies, where digital tools can overcome infrastructure limitations and resource constraints to democratize access to quality entrepreneurship education, though success requires institutional capacity building, thoughtful curriculum design, and supporting policies.

AI is innovating how service experiences can be designed, curated, and delivered. Service that emphasizes experiential components, such as sensory, affective, cognitive, behavioral and social elements, are considered experiential service. Customer experience is multidimensional across multiple touchpoints, unfolds over the customer journey, can be enabled by various AI technologies, and can establish emotional connections with customers.

This special issue seeks to advance our understanding of how AI can enable experience innovation. By enabling personalization, adaptive interaction, and multisensory engagement, AI allows service providers to create new, innovative experiences and enables customers to participate in journeys that evolve dynamically with their needs and preferences. For examples, augmented and virtual reality technologies (AR/VR) are used in retailing to innovate experiences; extended-reality technologies (XR) are used to bring static museum exhibitions to life, mixed-reality technologies (MR) are used to blend real and virtual skill development, and AI technologies are used to enhance sports or entertainment experiences through digital images and surround sound.

How should AI-enabled experiences be orchestrated across physical, digital, and extended-reality touchpoints throughout the service journey?

How can service providers create and scale AI-enabled experience innovations for human customers, hybrid human-AI customers, or autonomous AI customers to generate favorable outcomes for customers, providers, and ecosystems?

What new experiential consequences and innovation outcomes arise from AI, and how can they be conceptualized, measured, and managed over time?

What ethical, societal, or governance challenges arise and how can AI-enabled experience innovation be designed, governed, and managed responsibly?

This Special Issue invites interdisciplinary contributions exploring how emerging technologies like AI, AR, VR, XR, and others dynamically shape consumer emotions, eventually influencing identity and behaviour. The issue welcomes theoretical, empirical, and methodological paper submissions from consumer behaviour, consumer psychology, human technology interaction, digital media, and related areas.

The focus is on exploring the mechanisms, processes, and consequences in the context of technology-enabled emotion engineering. Additionally, discussions are encouraged on consumer autonomy, well-being, and broader implications of emotionally engineered consumer behaviour.
