The environmental crisis is reshaping how people consume, yet a persistent gap exists between consumers' stated sustainability values and actual behaviour. Marketing research must move beyond measuring intentions to understanding how sustainability is enacted in real-world contexts, where affordability, convenience and competing priorities constrain behavioural change.

This special issue seeks research examining the intersection of sustainability theory and practice, particularly studies exploring lived experiences of sustainable consumption and marketing's role in enabling meaningful behavioural change. The issue welcomes conceptual, qualitative, quantitative, experimental and mixed-methods contributions that connect rigorous theoretical development with real-world sustainability challenges and generate actionable implications for businesses, policymakers and communities.

This special issue examines how information systems scholarship can address environmental concerns related to generative AI. While GAI offers significant benefits for efficiency and automation, its rapid development has created substantial environmental challenges, including high electricity consumption, water use for cooling, and electronic waste from obsolete computing hardware. These impacts disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and regions in the Global South.

The issue seeks studies adopting an eco-socio-technical perspective to explore both the negative environmental effects of GAI and its potential benefits for weather forecasting, agriculture, and urban management. Contributors are encouraged to investigate how organizations, governments, individuals, and communities can implement and use GAI responsibly, examining tradeoffs between technological benefits and environmental costs. Research employing primary data, various methodologies, and practitioner perspectives are welcomed.

The COVID-19 pandemic and climate disasters have revealed the limitations of market-based institutions and governments in managing systemic crises. This has prompted increased attention to corporate moral motivation and business ethics as essential for sustainable development. The special issue examines how moral adaptation, business strategy, and innovation interconnect in addressing global challenges.

The relationship between these dimensions is complex. Moral evolution and environmental justice reshape corporate strategy, yet traditional economic theory struggles to reconcile justice with efficiency and ethics with innovation. Simultaneously, businesses play an increasingly vital role in developing solutions to major societal problems, including climate change, through strategic adaptation that affects both their operations and their broader ecosystems.

The special issue calls for research reconsidering business ethics in light of contemporary environmental and social concerns. It welcomes global submissions exploring how ethics, institutional frameworks, and innovation interact to support sustainable business practices and address grand challenges.

This special issue addresses the urgent need to rethink marketing's role in a post-growth future. With humanity facing catastrophic climate change caused primarily by human activity, marketing must shift from promoting unlimited consumption to supporting genuinely sustainable lifestyles. Post-growth, increasingly studied across environmental sciences, economics, and social sciences, challenges societies' dependence on economic growth and questions the link between prosperity and consumerism.

The special issue seeks contributions exploring three interconnected questions: how marketing can challenge growth-oriented systems and critique its own pro-growth practices; how marketing can support degrowth transitions and transform economic practices; and how marketing can function within a post-growth economy while meeting human needs within planetary boundaries. Contributions should bridge theory and practice, examining tensions between individual and systemic responsibility, alternative practices, and marketing's evolving role.

Wildfires are becoming increasingly frequent and intense in many regions due to climate change, land-use shifts, and expanding human settlements in fire-prone areas. Their economic impacts extend far beyond direct suppression costs, affecting labour productivity, supply chains, tourism, housing markets, and public health through smoke exposure. Rising public expenditures on prevention and recovery, combined with evolving policy debates around insurance and risk financing, underscore the need for rigorous economic analysis.

This special issue seeks empirical research that quantifies the welfare consequences of wildfires and smoke, particularly in regions facing emerging risks and in developing economies. The call welcomes interdisciplinary work grounded in environmental and resource economics that evaluates adaptation and management strategies, leveraging new data sources and innovative methodologies including remote sensing and AI-based technologies.

International organizations have implemented regulations requiring decarbonization of transportation and logistics industries. The special issue addresses net-zero emissions implementation through multimodal transport networks, where major cargo owners and stakeholders have committed to zero-emission transportation. AI and big data technologies are identified as catalysts for digital transformation and carbon reduction optimization.

The special issue aims to fill research gaps concerning net-zero pathway implementation, particularly around three key challenges: direct emissions reduction, higher capital and operating costs for green technologies, and establishing sustainable green energy supply chains. The collection seeks comprehensive and integrated approaches to enable logistics and transportation industries to achieve carbon reduction and multimodal network sustainability.

Researchers are invited to explore how AI, digitalization, new technologies, and policy mechanisms can support decarbonization. The special issue targets the research community and practitioners in transport, logistics, and supply chains to provide managerial insights and expand literature on net-zero pathways.
