Marketing practice is being transformed by technological advances, geopolitical shifts, economic pressures, and growing demands for sustainability and social responsibility. Retail environments serve as key sites where these transformations unfold, with both physical and digital channels becoming laboratories for new consumer engagement and adaptive strategies. Consumers now demand greater brand ethics, transparency, and societal contributions, while external disruptions like supply chain fragility, inflation, and geopolitical tensions reshape pricing and sourcing. Simultaneously, artificial intelligence and platform ecosystems are fundamentally changing how consumers access information and make purchase decisions.

The global space industry is undergoing transformation driven by private companies and technological advances that have lowered costs and expanded space's strategic relevance. Advanced technologies including satellite miniaturization, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing now support diverse economic activities from telecommunications to climate monitoring. This evolution occurs within a complex geopolitical context where multiple nations are expanding their capabilities and international frameworks are being developed to govern competition in orbital environments.

This special issue seeks scholarly contributions examining the evolving global space economy and its implications for business strategy, international management, and governance. The journal particularly encourages submissions exploring cross-country dynamics, multinational enterprises, global value chains, and international frameworks shaping the commercial space sector, submitted as empirical research, theoretical work, comparative studies, policy analyses, or case studies.

Southeast Asia represents a significant yet theoretically under-explored region in international business research. With ten ASEAN economies forming the world's fifth-largest economic bloc and attracting substantial foreign investment, the region presents unique phenomena including supply chain reconfiguration driven by China-plus-one strategies, the emergence of regional multinationals, and institutional diversity across countries with different political systems and development stages.

Despite its empirical importance, Southeast Asia remains underrepresented in leading international management journals, where research focuses predominantly on China and India. This special issue seeks contributions that treat Southeast Asian phenomena as theoretically generative rather than merely illustrative. It particularly encourages submissions from scholars based in the region and aims to develop international management theory beyond existing BRICS-centric frameworks by leveraging the region's distinctive features including family capitalism, ethnic-Chinese business networks, state-linked enterprises, and ASEAN-level institutional structures.

This focused issue addresses how multinational enterprises navigate environments characterized by fragmented, conflicting, and overlapping institutional and stakeholder pressures arising from national security concerns, populist movements, and societal disruptions. The call recognizes that while international institutions like the UN SDGs and Paris Agreement shape MNE decision-making, domestic resistance in some countries creates institutional conflicts that MNEs must resolve through their strategic choices.

The issue seeks contributions exploring four main areas: the factors exposing MNEs to institutional fragmentation; how firms combine market and non-market strategies to respond to these pressures; how MNEs orchestrate responses across multiple jurisdictions; and how macro-level tensions affect internal organizational dynamics. The editors welcome conceptual and empirical papers using various methodologies, along with interdisciplinary work that incorporates political science perspectives.

C. Michael Hall, Massey University

The ongoing Middle East conflict involving Israel, Iran, the United States, Lebanon, and Palestine represents the most significant disruption to international tourism since COVID-19. Its effects extend globally through disrupted aviation hubs in the Gulf, restricted airspace affecting Asia-Europe travel, and threats to shipping routes, alongside direct threats to tourism infrastructure worldwide.

Beyond direct military impacts, the crisis influences global tourism through elevated oil and energy costs, affecting aviation fuel prices and transport expenses. This energy crisis, reportedly exceeding previous major oil shocks combined, threatens airline viability and has implications for the sustainability and future trajectory of tourism infrastructure and carbon-dependent transport networks.

The journal invites research examining how the crisis affects tourist behavior, destination competitiveness, industry resilience, and government and business responses across international, regional, national, and local contexts, as well as its broader implications for tourism governance and energy futures.

Digital technologies are increasingly shaping the conduct of individuals, businesses, and societies. Particularly disruptive digital technologies include artificial intelligence, the internet of things, additive manufacturing, robotics, business analytics, cloud-based computing, and blockchain. Although digital technologies may appear geographically unanchored, they are physically situated in specific locations and connected through infrastructure such as underwater cables. The spatial embeddedness of these infrastructures has become intertwined with geopolitical competition and strategic rivalry, with control over critical assets such as undersea cables, semiconductor production hubs, cloud service locations, and digital standards increasingly contested between leading powers, notably the US and China.
