This special collection focuses on the Limb Injury Measurement Battery for Quality of Life (LIMB-QOL), a comprehensive patient-reported outcome system designed to assess multiple dimensions of functioning in individuals with limb loss and severe extremity trauma. The LIMB-QOL system addresses physical, emotional, and social aspects of health and was developed through a major collaborative initiative supported by the U.S. Department of Defense.

The collection welcomes foundational research manuscripts that introduce the LIMB-QOL measurement system to the scientific and clinical communities. Submissions should contribute to understanding the development, implementation, and application of this measurement system for evaluating outcomes in individuals experiencing major extremity injuries.

The EQ-DAPHNIE project, funded by the EuroQol Research Foundation, conducted a comprehensive population health assessment across 15 countries, collecting demographic data, social determinants of health, and diverse patient-reported outcome measures. This special collection brings together research examining the findings from this initiative.

Regulatory and health technology assessment bodies increasingly recognize the value of incorporating patient perspectives during product development and evaluation. Patient experience data encompasses patient-reported outcomes, clinical assessments, and preference information, yet their integration into decision-making remains inconsistent. This collection seeks to advance understanding of how different stakeholders approach patient experience data to ensure patient voices meaningfully influence healthcare decisions.

The collection invites original research, reviews, and discussion papers examining how patient experience data—including preferences, symptoms, and quality of life measures—can inform regulatory and HTA submissions and decisions. Contributions addressing recent developments in the field and exploring emerging applications such as artificial intelligence and digital health technologies in patient experience research are particularly encouraged.
