This special issue in Small Business Economics investigates how entrepreneurs develop and leverage internal capabilities to succeed when external support systems are unavailable or depleted. Rather than viewing crises as isolated incidents, the issue recognizes that contemporary entrepreneurs increasingly operate under persistent adversity and must rely on their own resources, psychological strengths, and adaptive mechanisms to thrive.

The call seeks innovative research that moves beyond existing literature by examining the endogenous foundations of entrepreneurial success. Submissions should explore how entrepreneurs generate innovation, build resilience, and maintain adaptability when facing continuous challenges and reduced access to traditional ecosystem support.

Supply chains face mounting pressures from climate change, geopolitical tensions, and pandemic risks, while stakeholders demand greater sustainability. Digital technologies like artificial intelligence and blockchain offer solutions for enhancing visibility and improving environmental and social outcomes.

The integration of digital innovation with sustainability and resilience strategies enables supply chains to reduce systemic risks while strengthening their ability to recover from disruptions. However, significant gaps remain in understanding how these technologies influence ESG performance and interact with contextual factors.

This special issue seeks high-quality contributions exploring how digital and emerging technologies enable or constrain sustainable, resilient, and regenerative supply chain strategies, offering theoretical insights and practical implications for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers.

Technology transfer from universities and industry has been central to economic development, but rapidly advancing research and technology demand continuous evolution of university transfer structures and processes. In environments characterised by technological disruption, environmental threats, and changing workforce demands, DSS models, frameworks, tools, and applications are essential for enabling evidence-based decision-making and strategic adaptation.

The call welcomes contributions exploring both theoretical foundations and practical applications of DSS across four main areas: green and sustainable transitions, digital transformation, workforce and skills transitions, and resilient supply chains. Submissions should demonstrate how DSS support organisations and societies in balancing efficiency with sustainability and resilience objectives while navigating rapid change.

Relevant submissions include conceptual models, quantitative frameworks with performance indicators, empirical case studies, interdisciplinary approaches, and critical analyses of adoption barriers and governance considerations for DSS implementation in transitions.

This special issue invites empirically grounded research examining how the Black Sea region recovers and transforms amid conflict, economic transitions, and geopolitical uncertainty. The editors welcome submissions employing quantitative methods such as econometrics, input-output modeling, GIS, remote sensing, network analysis, and agent-based models, as well as mixed methods approaches. Studies offering actionable policy recommendations for diverse stakeholders including municipalities, port authorities, government ministries, and international organizations are particularly valued.

Modern supply chains face unprecedented disruptions while simultaneously confronting environmental limits and resource scarcity. This requires a fundamental transformation toward more responsive and circular systems. Digital technologies including IoT, AI, digital twins, and blockchain are critical enablers for building resilient supply chains that adapt quickly to change while reducing resource consumption and closing material loops.

Contributions should explore digital technologies across multiple supply chain tiers, with particular emphasis on industry-specific applications and the integration of responsiveness, servitization, and sustainability goals.

It addresses the complex challenges posed by modern disasters, pandemics, and crises that require coordination across professional and organizational boundaries, while emphasizing the importance of trust, legitimacy, learning, and community engagement.

The issue seeks contributions that bridge disaster management, emergency services, and public administration scholarship, with particular interest in governance capacity, collaborative networks, and the role of individual job crafting in workforce resilience. It also recognizes that crisis experiences are shaped by social inequalities, identity relations, and uneven distributions of power and resources.

Submissions may be research articles, new development pieces, or debate articles that explore topics including multi-level coordination, leadership, organizational learning, digital transformation in emergency management, and the contributions of communities and civil society to building resilience.

This special issue addresses how firms and innovation systems navigate security challenges facing critical infrastructure systems such as energy, transportation, telecommunications, and water. As infrastructure disruptions increasingly cascade through supply chains and threaten economic competitiveness, the intersection of innovation and security has become central to industrial dynamics and firm strategy. The call seeks contributions examining how technological, organizational, regulatory, and strategic innovations build infrastructure resilience while contending with geopolitical tensions, cyber threats, environmental pressures, and dual-use technology dilemmas.

The special issue examines innovation processes across multiple levels: firm-level adaptations to infrastructure vulnerabilities, sectoral coordination among heterogeneous actors, and policy frameworks managing tensions between openness and security controls. Contributions should explore how organizational innovations developed in response to infrastructure threats subsequently reshape infrastructure provision and adjacent sectors, and how innovation systems balance knowledge networking with security governance.
