Emerging technologies promise operational improvements, but their scaling often generates complex trade-offs that become more acute across organisational boundaries and levels. The special issue addresses operational tensions—persistent conflicts between competing demands such as centralisation versus decentralisation, efficiency versus flexibility, and autonomy versus control—that emerge when technologies reconfigure processes, resource allocation and governance. These tensions extend beyond individual implementations to affect supply networks, infrastructure systems and institutional contexts, with implications for resilience, governance and sustainability.

The call invites research examining how organisations navigate these tensions at three levels: within organisations, across supply networks and platforms, and at system-wide scales involving regulation, cybersecurity and resource constraints. Particular interest lies in contexts facing disruption or resource scarcity, such as healthcare and humanitarian operations, where technology adoption may enhance visibility and coordination yet intensify tensions around resource allocation and inter-organisational accountability.

Despite decades of research on ethics and sustainability, supply chains continue to exhibit persistent unethical behaviour including forced labour, inadequate working conditions, and gaps between corporate commitments and actual practices. Rather than treating unethical conduct as a compliance problem to be solved through better auditing and codes, this special issue seeks to understand the structural and systemic conditions that make unethical decisions rational and routine within supply chains.

The special issue addresses contemporary challenges including new regulatory requirements such as the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, rapid adoption of artificial intelligence in procurement and logistics, geopolitical fragmentation reshaping global sourcing, and organisational environments where ethical choices are often more costly than unethical alternatives. The collection brings together scholars from operations management, business ethics, technology management, and organisation theory to examine the causal mechanisms underlying persistent unethical behaviour.

Organizations face ongoing disruptions and must adapt their supply chains while managing sustainability and digital transformation. However, there is limited frameworks for measuring and comparing adaptive supply chain performance across different organizations and contexts. This special issue seeks to advance research that uses benchmarking logic to systematically evaluate how well supply chains adapt.

The special issue emphasizes understanding adaptive performance through the interaction of people, technology, governance, and sustainability practices. Rather than treating adaptation as a general concept, research should operationalize adaptability with measurable constructs and benchmarking frameworks that highlight performance differences between configurations.

Contributions should employ rigorous comparative designs using quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods to benchmark adaptive supply chains across industries and countries. By identifying which configurations perform better and under what conditions, the research will provide actionable insights for practitioners and policymakers.

The call welcomes contributions exploring both theoretical foundations and practical applications of DSS across four main areas: green and sustainable transitions, digital transformation, workforce and skills transitions, and resilient supply chains. Submissions should demonstrate how DSS support organisations and societies in balancing efficiency with sustainability and resilience objectives while navigating rapid change.

Relevant submissions include conceptual models, quantitative frameworks with performance indicators, empirical case studies, interdisciplinary approaches, and critical analyses of adoption barriers and governance considerations for DSS implementation in transitions.

This annual special issue invites authors to submit proposals for integrative literature reviews of important supply chain management research streams. The special issue aims to synthesize current knowledge and provide direction for future development in the field. Rather than submitting full papers, authors propose a review project that outlines how they will examine and synthesize a focused area of SCM scholarship.

Proposals are evaluated on their significance, feasibility, potential breadth of interest, clarity, and contribution to future research directions. The review should address a notable gap in existing literature or provide substantial new perspective beyond prior reviews. The guest editors emphasize that proposals must be carefully crafted and authors should seek colleague feedback before submission, as rough drafts will not be pre-screened.

The polycrisis—a convergence of overlapping crises including climate change, pandemic disruptions, geopolitical conflicts, and economic volatility—challenges management practice and theory. This special issue argues that sustainability rooted in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic resilience is not a luxury but essential for organizational survival and legitimacy when facing systemic turbulence.

Organizations must maintain legitimacy and adapt strategy amid multiple simultaneous crises. This issue seeks scholarship examining how sustainable management approaches enable resilience, how supply chains can be redesigned for both sustainability and continuity, and what governance structures support long-term commitment during short-term crises. Contributions should draw on diverse theoretical perspectives—systems theory, institutional theory, ethics, and resilience science—to illuminate how sustainability principles guide decision-making under radical uncertainty.

This special issue addresses the urgent need to understand and manage global supply chain reconfiguration in response to tariff uncertainty and shifting trade policies. Rising tariffs and trade tensions are forcing organizations to redesign their sourcing strategies, manufacturing locations, and logistics networks, creating significant practical challenges that require new analytical approaches.

The journal seeks high-quality contributions that apply operations research and artificial intelligence methods to develop decision-making models for supply chain management under tariff uncertainty. Both theoretical advances and practical case studies are welcome, particularly interdisciplinary research that combines OR, AI, supply chain management, and international economics with real-world applications.

Southeast Asia represents a significant yet theoretically under-explored region in international business research. With ten ASEAN economies forming the world's fifth-largest economic bloc and attracting substantial foreign investment, the region presents unique phenomena including supply chain reconfiguration driven by China-plus-one strategies, the emergence of regional multinationals, and institutional diversity across countries with different political systems and development stages.

Despite its empirical importance, Southeast Asia remains underrepresented in leading international management journals, where research focuses predominantly on China and India. This special issue seeks contributions that treat Southeast Asian phenomena as theoretically generative rather than merely illustrative. It particularly encourages submissions from scholars based in the region and aims to develop international management theory beyond existing BRICS-centric frameworks by leveraging the region's distinctive features including family capitalism, ethnic-Chinese business networks, state-linked enterprises, and ASEAN-level institutional structures.

Low-altitude logistics, enabled by drones and digital platforms integrated with ground transportation systems, represents an emerging frontier in logistics and supply chain management. While existing research has explored drone-assisted delivery and truck-drone coordination, significant gaps remain between rapid real-world experimentation and fragmented academic understanding. The special issue addresses critical questions about adoption barriers, network integration, stakeholder acceptance, business model viability, and sustainability implications of low-altitude logistics systems.

The journal invites empirically grounded studies that develop theoretical frameworks, uncover underlying mechanisms, and examine scenario-based applications of low-altitude logistics. Research should explain how organizations adopt and govern these systems, how they reshape logistics networks and service processes, and how they affect operational efficiency, resilience, sustainability, and public value. The special issue seeks to establish a coherent research agenda moving beyond isolated technological applications.

This special issue examines how supply chains are being transformed by regulatory pressures and sustainability imperatives. The convergence of resource scarcity, climate urgency, and increasingly stringent European regulations—including CSRD, CSDDD, and the Digital Product Passport—requires companies to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance into their supply chain strategies. However, this integration raises significant methodological and operational challenges around impact measurement, traceability, and inter-organizational coordination.

The call seeks contributions exploring the tensions and synergies between extra-financial performance requirements and supply chain management from academic, regulatory, and managerial perspectives. Recent regulatory uncertainty, including the proposed Omnibus simplification package, creates new research questions around regulatory path dependency, stranded costs, and the trade-offs between anticipatory compliance and operational greenwashing versus greenhushing strategies.

Recent large-scale disruptions including pandemics, geopolitical conflicts, and climate disasters have revealed how disturbances cascade across supply chain levels, causing systemic failures. While supply chain resilience has become prominent in research, existing literature remains fragmented, typically examining single analytical levels without comprehensive systemic perspective.

This special issue advances systemic understanding of supply chain resilience by examining cross-level interactions and building multi-level frameworks. The issue seeks research treating resilience as a dynamic capability emerging from interactions across individual, organizational, supply chain, and environmental levels, exploring how factors at different levels influence each other, applying theoretical frameworks like systems theory and panarchy theory, investigating technology's mediating role, and developing practical tools for managers.

Logistics and supply chain management (L/SCM) have advanced through analytical rigor and empirical refinement. However, the contemporary landscape, shaped by geopolitical shifts, digital transformation, climate pressures, and evolving societal expectations, requires more than incremental extensions of existing models. It calls for a reconsideration of the assumptions, values, and conceptual boundaries that underpin the field. Many of the most pressing challenges in L/SCM today are not only empirical, but also normative, philosophical, and inherently interdisciplinary.

This special issue seeks essays that move beyond established paradigms and offer reflective, provocative, and conceptually grounded perspectives that offer new lenses and open new directions for research and practice. The objective is to complement empirical work by fostering ideas that challenge, reframe, and extend our understanding of L/SCM.

Over the last decade, managers, policymakers, scholars, and society at large have grappled with an escalating series of interconnected shocks: climate emergencies, geopolitical tensions, economic volatility and rapid technological disruption. What distinguishes the current era is not simply the frequency or severity of these shocks, but their deep interdependence, which is likely to prolong their effects for decades. Climate events often trigger food insecurity that fuels political instability; geopolitical conflict reshapes energy markets and trade flows; and technological breakthrough creates new vulnerabilities even as it may offer new capabilities. These dynamics do not unfold in isolation, but very often interact, amplify one another, and cascade across organisational boundaries and supply chains to impact sectors, regions and continents.
